What's a social enterprise?

A social enterprise is an organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in financial, social and environmental well-being. Or in layman's terms, we're a company's with a goal to make money to support other people.
So where is my money going?

Remember TOMS, the shoe company? Well, think of us like TOMS. When you purchase a camp, workshop, or program at Ahead, it also covers the cost for another young girl without the financial resources to benefit from our program.
I have a son who would love this. Can he participate?

Inclusivity is one of our core values. This means we welcome everyone at Ahead Academy! But since there are so few camps offering programs specifically Black and Brown girls, our curriculum is created with young girls of color in mind. While we accept all students in our program, please know that the focus of our curriculum and programming will remain the same. Email hello@aheadacademy.org with questions.
My child is not Black but I would love for them to participate in this! Can they attend Ahead Academy?

When do the YLC classes take place?

The YLC classes run on Saturdays during the summer from 11a-1p. Saturday, June 14 (in-person) Saturday, June 21 (virtual) Saturday, June 28 (in-person) Saturday, July 5 (virtual) Saturday, July 19 (in-person) Saturday, July 26 (virtual) Saturday, August 2 (in-person) Saturday, August 9 (in-person)
Where are the in-person classes?

The YLC meets on the south and west sides of the city at various locations (libraries, local businesses, and community meeting spaces, etc). Exact locations will be confirmed on 3/31/25.
What sort of things will we do in the YLC?

Here are a few of our topics: Leadership & Mentorship Training Career Readiness & Financial Literacy Public Speaking & Confidence Building Braiding Skills (Basic to Advanced)
I'm 13. Can I still apply?

Not yet. You must be 15-18 to participate in the YLC.
